“Free-Fair-Fearless”?!?!?!?!

An age old question is raised again- what drives a man to commit sexual abuse and harassment of women? What kind of pleasure do men derive from the fear, hatred, dislike, contempt, anger, loathing a woman feels when she is subject to harassment? Some excuses have been that the society is repressed, such men are depraved, they are not educated, and the list of excuses goes on and on.

What kind of pleasure do men derive from the fear, hatred, dislike, contempt, anger, loathing a woman feels when she is subject to harassment?

So what is it that drives men like Tarun Tejpal to commit such heinous acts? If people like him who say they stand up against corruption, stand up against the wrong towards society begin to think it is okay to sexually abuse and say “Oh! What I have done is wrong, so I step down as the editor of my magazine!” Who is left then? Is there no deterring this behavior? It is indeed a shame that as a society we chose to look the other way. It is just not okay! We need to bring in a change in the way we think, it has to be cultural. Women talking about the abuse they face is just the first step, what do we as society do next? Leave aside the law and administration-they have their roles to play.

Our question is to you- what are you doing about it? If you haven’t done anything still, maybe it is time to stop and think… maybe it is time YOU take some definitive action. There needs to be a citizens movement- to show perpetrators like him that we just don’t accept this behavior! It has to stop, and stop now!
