Marital and Adultery Laws in India
On 27th July, Sourya Banerjee @JoeBanerjee conducted a tweetchat on “Marital and Adultery Laws in India” talking about the updates in the laws considering the current social and legal climate.
The chat first began with discussions regarding adultery, whether it should be a crime, and what are the different reasons for it being a crime. The participants also discussed whether the adultery law should be made gender neutral.
The discussion then went on to marital rape, the need for a law against marital rape, nuances that the law should cover. The audience was asked whether marriage exception and gender clauses in rape laws should be removed in India.
